G-UNIT ELEPHANT IN THE SAND
This would be the last mixtape G-Unit would release as a crew. 50 Cent showed once again showing why he’s NYC own bad guy. Return of the Body Snatchers was a return of the original trio and Elephant in the Sand picks up where ROTBS left off. This time 50 takes his aim at his then arch nemesis Fat Joe throughout the whole tape. The Intro implicating Fat Joe as being a snitch starts the tape off in a humorous way. They go back to the original format of taking popular songs at the time and revamping them. They do it in a very hilarious way with the remake of The Dream’s Love Your Girl and turning it into the raunchy I’d Fuck Your Girl.
But for the most part, The Tape is directed to 50’s core audience and thats what makes Elephant in the Sand comes across very solid. Yes 50’s stock as a artist has dwindled over the years but he can still make good music when really motivated, Elephant in the Sand do have its moments. There are also bangers such as Put a Hollow thru him, Confrontation, Fully Loaded and I’m On it Like that where Yayo hilariously compares Game, Nas and Fat Joe to wrestlers The Ultimate Warrior, Virgil, and Andre the Giant.
The skits displaying Fat Joe as a snitch are funny. 50 did a clever job of using the then Papoose/Fat Joe confrontation as a tactic to focus attention among himself. The main problem with this mixtape is that it its WAY too short and that There are times throughout where the Unit sound uninspired like on songs such as Lifetime Achievement, Chase the Cat, and Red Light, Green Light. Listening to Elephant in the Sand comes across as almost a clear rushjob or 50’s way of capitalizing off what was a hot beef at the time.
